Desired Feelings vs. Goals

The kids are looking more like 6th graders now; the transition is beginning to happen.  It was a lovely week back at school and we kicked it off with getting honest about habits.  The kids created an "Academic Success Plan" and created three goals they'd like to work on during the third trimester.

The following day we talked about how they feel at the end of the day;  when they leave the classroom and get on the bus, and when they put their head on the pillow at night.  We compared those feelings with how they'd like to feel each day and how they related to the goals created.

The kids put the original goals aside and worked at naming the desired feelings they'd like to feel each day.  From there, they backed out what they would need to do in order to have those feelings.  Needless to say, some of the goals changed.

Some of the desired feelings were: more organized, more energetic, smarter, healthier, & happier.

Earl English Settlements

This week the class finally took the test on Early English Settlements.  They were MORE than ready and their grades are proof of that! Now we move on to Comparing the Colonies.

Dress Up Day

I'm always asking the kids for ideas they'd like to participate in and win tickets for as rewards for the work they do in Room 37.  One idea was to "buy" a coupon for "Dress Up Day" where the purchaser gets to choose when the class will dress up.  Unfortunately, the day fell when I was under the weather, but Ms. O'Shea took a lovely photo of this beautiful bunch.

Virtual Field Trip

Today all 5th graders took a "virtual field trip" to the dessert in Arizona and learned a lot about all sorts of dessert animals.  Our class was able to ask quesitons remotely and have the guide at the reserve answer us in real time addressing us as "Mrs. Caputo's Class".  It was great fun!  Many thanks to Ms. Garagliano for setting this special event up for us!
